The first day of historic one-off Test match between Afghanistan and New Zealand have been called off due to wet outfield. The two umpires narrated that the condition wasn't upto the mark to play.
The heavy rains since the last two weeks have had a big impact on the outfield. It was a sunny say in Greater Noida but the outfield had all the damps. The run-up area of bowlers was also a major concern. The groundsmen tried their everything but the umpires Sharafuddoula Ibn Shaikat and Kumar Dharmasena weren’t convinced on the conditions.
So it goes that the Test match lost an entire day and only four days are remaining.
This is the first-ever Test between New Zealand against Afghanistan, who got their Test status back in 2017 with Ireland as 11th and 12th number Test status holder country.
Afghanistan have played 10 Tests so far, and have endured defeats in their last three matches against Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Ireland. For New Zealand, this will be their first Test since March.
