Fakhar Zaman is “100% sure” that he will play for Pakistan again and is preparing for the 2025 Champions Trophy, which begins on February 19 and will be played in Pakistan and Dubai.
Fakhar Zaman is focused on his return to the Pakistan national cricket team for the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy. After recovering from an illness following the 2024 T20 World Cup, Fakhar is confident about his participation, looking for new starting places despite the competition and preparing for the International League T20 with Desert Vipers.
The opening batsman, who is currently out of action after the 2024 T20 World Cup due to health issues, is determined to make a strong comeback for his country.
In a recent interview, Fakhar spoke about the challenges he faced during his time away from the field. "I will 100% play for Pakistan again," Fakhar said.
"Many people don't actually know this but after the T20 World Cup, I fell ill and due to my health condition, I was not fit so I was not part of the team."
"I didn't play in the Australia tour or the South Africa tour so my whole plan was to just play in the Champions Trophy, make myself available and be fully fit for the tournament," he added.
Incidentally, it was the 2017 Champions Trophy where Fakhar rose to prominence with a title-winning 114 against India in the final at the Oval in London. "My plan revolved around the Champions Trophy," he said. "I didn't play in the Australia tour or the South Africa tour, so my whole plan was to just play in the Champions Trophy, make myself available and be fully fit for the tournament.
"That was in the back of my mind and I'm grateful and lucky to be fit now. I started in the 2017 Champions Trophy and that went really well for me and now I'm really looking forward to the next edition as well. I spoke to the selectors and the head coach and everyone wanted me to play in the Champions Trophy."
Fakhar's enthusiasm extends to the International League T20 where he will represent the Desert Vipers. He joins a squad that includes Pakistani talents such as Shaheen Shah Afridi and Shadab Khan. His return to form is crucial to Pakistan's strategy as they look to field a formidable team for the Champions Trophy on home soil.
