With the change of government, the winds of transformation have swept across various sectors of the country, including the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). The nation's cricketing body has also seen significant changes.
Nazmul Hassan Papon, who served as BCB President for 12 years, has resigned from his position. Former Bangladesh national team captain and ex-chief selector, Faruque Ahmed, has taken over as the new BCB president. Additionally, Nazmul Abedeen Fahim has been appointed as a director of the BCB.
Several key figures from the previous board have stepped down, including Jalal Yunus. Sazzadul Alam Bobby, another influential figure, is no longer part of the board. Both Jalal and Bobby were directors nominated by the National Sports Council (NSC). They have now been replaced by Faruque Ahmed and Nazmul Abedeen Fahim, who were appointed as directors with a formal statement from the NSC, explaining the constitutional basis for these changes.
In a press release today (August 23), the NSC stated, “According to Article 9.3.2 of the BCB constitution, following the resignation of Mr. Mohammad Jalal Yunus on August 19, 2024, Mr. Nazmul Abedeen Fahim has been nominated by the National Sports Council to fill the vacant position. Furthermore, in line with Article 13.2 (b) (4) of the constitution, the NSC has appointed Mr. Faruque Ahmed and Mr. Nazmul Abedeen Fahim as directors, replacing previous nominees. These appointments have been widely appreciated.”
