In the 1st T20I (Night) match (produced no result due to rain) between England and Pakistan at Old Trafford, Manchester on Friday saw England's first wicket of the innings fall to a caught & bowled. Experts opine on why Sri Lanka's first wicket in T20s have never been c&b

A cricket statistician Aslam Siddiqui has found out that this was the first such instance for England. Among the 12 full members, only Sri Lanka have never lost their first wicket in a T20I innings to caught and bowled.

"Usually when you are caught and bowled, you are playing slightly early/or the pitch is slower than expected,”

Grant Flower, the team batting coach, when this reporter informed him about this unique statistics, said over telephone from Colombo. According to former opening batsman Sanath Jayasuriya, the Sri Lankan batsmen always play positive cricket. "I guess we are always looking to play positive cricket. If the first ball is there to be hit, we will hit it.” "In T20 cricket, especially, there is no time to settle down. Just go after the bowling,” Jayasuriya, who played 31 T20 internationals for Sri Lanka, added.
