Sourav Ganguly, the former head of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and a former captain of India, has taken a dig at those who criticize him when he made Rohit Sharma the captain of all format.

Following India's 2021 T20 World Cup group-stage elimination, Virat Kohli was compelled to retire from all forms of cricket. Ganguly was then considered Rohit for the role.

Because of Kohli's incredible fan following, Ganguly became their archenemy and their top target. As a result, he took a lot of flak for treating Kohli badly and giving Rohit more prominence. But now in 2024, India won the T20 World Cup under Rohit, ending their 11-year drought for an ICC trophy.

Even though Ganguly is no longer the BCCI president, the former captain of India still remembers how much backlash he received for his choice. In an interview with the Bengali daily "Aajkaal," Ganguly responded to his detractors.

"When I handed Rohit Sharma the captaincy of the Indian team, everyone criticised me. Now that India has won the T20 World Cup under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma, everyone has stopped abusing me for it. In fact, I think everyone has forgotten that it was I who appointed him as the captain of the Indian team," Sourav Ganguly told Ajkaal.
