Sri Lanka have solidified their chances in the second Test after a fantastic first day. Dinesh Chandimal's incredible 116, along with unbeaten innings from Angelo Mathews (78*) and Kamindu Mendis (51*) helped Sri Lanka pile up 306 runs on the board.

After opting to bat first, Pathum Nissanka departed earlier on to Tim Southee. Dimuth Karunaratne played a gorgeous knock of 46 off 109 balls before running out. It was the partnership between Dinesh Chandimal and Angelo Mathews, the two old cliche of the Sri Lankan lineup, who changed the course of the match.

The duo added 97 runs off 202 balls, where Chandimal contributed with 40 and he brought up an incredible hundred of 116 off 208 balls before being knocked over by Glenn Phillips.

But Mathews was still there and he took time to get to his unbeaten 78*. On the contrary, Kamindu Mendis came out after the departure of Chandimal and brought up his fifty in nearly run-a-ball, scoring 51* off 56 deliveries and Sri Lanka are on 306-3.

With Mathews and Mendis still unbeaten on the crease, Sri Lanka might be eyeing for piling up over 500 on the board. For New Zealand, Ajaz Patel bowled tight and William ORourke was terribly unlucky to end up being wicketless today, as he had three catches drop off from his bowling.
