Sydney Thunder have confirmed that David Warner will lead this club in KFC BBL|14. Warner successfully appealed his captaincy sanction last month and the CA (Cricket Australia) has uplifted his lifetime captaincy ban.

David Warner Warner was sanctioned this lifetime captaincy ban after the ball-tampering scandal in Cape Town back in 2018. But last month he appealed to review the sanction and successfully the ban has been uplifted.

However, Warner played irregularly for the Thunder in past two seasons but after retiring from international Cricket, it is expected that he might be fully available for the upcoming Big Bash League.

The 38-year-old southpaw replaces allrounder Chris Green as Thunder skipper, who remains at the club.

"Captaining the Thunder again this season means a lot to me," Warner said in a statement.

"I was part of the team from the start, and now to be back with that ‘C’ next to my name feels fantastic.

"I’m looking forward to leading from the front and sharing my experience with the young talent coming through."

"We have an incredible group of young players like Ollie Davies, Jason Sangha, and Sam Konstas.

"They’re fearless and have so much potential. My goal is to guide them, help them learn the game, and ultimately give them the tools to thrive both in the BBL and beyond."

Sydney Thunder will begin their BBL|14 journey against Adelaide Strikers on December 17.
