Cricket Australia (CA) has handed another 10-year ban to former Sri Lankan Test player Dulip Samaraweera after new allegations of inappropriate behavior emerged. Samaraweera, who had already been banned from any involvement in Australian cricket for 20 years due to previous misconduct, now faces additional penalties following a second allegation involving a female player.

The new allegations stem from Samaraweera's time as a private coach while he was employed by Cricket Victoria. Though the alleged incident took place outside his official coaching role, Cricket Australia's Conduct Commission took the matter seriously and launched an investigation. However, Samaraweera chose not to participate in the investigation or the subsequent hearing.

"Cricket Australia Conduct Commission has made a determination in relation to a further allegation of inappropriate behaviour against Dulip Samaraweera," CA said in a statement.

Samaraweera, who played seven Tests for Sri Lanka, had been a long-time assistant coach for the Victoria Women’s cricket team and also worked as an assistant coach for the Melbourne Stars women's team since the Women's Big Bash League (WBBL) started in 2015. He took on the head coach role for the Victoria Women’s team earlier this year.

This latest 10-year ban will run concurrently with his initial 20-year suspension, meaning Samaraweera cannot return to any coaching role within Australian cricket until 2044, when he will be 72 years old. His first ban in September 2024 was due to inappropriate behavior towards another female player.
