Australia beat England by 68 runs in the second ODI on Saturday (September 21) at Headingley, Leeds. Alex Carey's brilliant 74 off 67 deliveries, with captain Mitchell Marsh's fine 60 off 59 balls helped Australia get 270 on the board. In reply, Aussie bowlers were clinical with the ball to restrict England to 202.

After opting to bat first, Australia had another steady opening stand between Matthew Short and Travis Head and the duo added 46 runs before Head departed to Brydon Carse.

Matthew Potts then removed Short and Smith to put Aussies in trouble. Marnus Labuschagne too failed to make a long innings.

However, captain Marsh stood tall and scored a fine fifty (60 off 59 balls). After the departure of Marsh, Aaron Hardie and Alex Carey stitched a match saving partnership of 55 runs, which changed the course of the match. Carey scored a fantastic 74 off 67 deliveries, while Hardie made 23 off 25 balls and Australia managed to get 270 on the board.

In reply, England lost two quick wickets to the Aussie old cliche Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood. Starc then trapped Harry Brook for LBW and England were in all sorts of trouble. Ben Duckett however, started off to a flier, scoring a quick-fire 32 off only 25 balls before falling to Aaron Hardie. The all-rounder had another one in the same over and pushed England further down.

Wicket-taker batter Jamie Smith played a fluent knock but couldn’t get to his fifty as he departed after scoring 49. England then lost the plot after the fall of Smith and eventually they were all-out for 202 runs and lost the game by 68 runs.
