After the disastrous World Cup campaign, the winds of change are finally starting to blow in the South African cricketing setup. The team has parted ways with coach Ottis Gibson, and Quinton de Kock will be the captain of the team in the absence of Fau du Plessis in an audition for the full-time job. Their first test was supposed to be on Sunday, September 15, when they face India in Dharamsala in the first of a three-game T20 series.

However, the match was called off due to rain. The non-stop pouring continued throughout, as even the toss wasn’t able to take place between the two teams. Incessant rain eventually forced the officials to call off the match. The second match of the series will take place on September 18 at the Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium Mohali.

The same goes for Theunis de Bruyn, who is a top scorer in the domestic T20 tournament at a strike rate of 161. The main issue for South Africa is spin. Now that Imran Tahir has retired, the question remains — can Tabraiz Shamsi step up to the plate? If South Africa is going to have any chance of winning in Australia, then Shamsi needs to bring his A-game every single match. Shamsi will probably play alongside Bjorn Fortuin in the series, and whoever plays better is likely to get the job.
