Scans have confirmed a back injury, with Green sidelined from the team for the fourth ODI of the series at Lord’s and ruled out for the fifth and final match of the series. The 25-year old now will head back to Perth for further assessment. Green has been in tremendous form throughout the UK tour. He was also the leading wicket-taker in Australia's 3-nil hammering in the Scotland.
The start of the home Test summer is still eight weeks away, the injury of Green now will add extra problem in the Aussie camp on who should partner Usman Khawaja for the Border-Gavaskar Test series opener in Perth, commences on November 22.
After the retirement of David Warner, Steve Smith was promoted to the opening position, while Green was settled for the No. 4 position. And Green answered perfectly with a fantastic hundred against New Zealand. But Usman Khawaja is not satisfied having Smith on top as he wants him to bat at the middle on No. 4.
Green is the fifth Australian to be ruled out of the ongoing UK white-ball tour following injuries of Nathan Ellis, Xavier Bartlett, Riley Meredith and Ben Dwarshuis.
