England have digged well to have a slender in Manchester Test after second day despite the morning session washed away. Dual fifties from Jamie Smith and Harry Brook helped England get some leads runs their belt.
Harry Brook and Jamie Smith played crucial innings to help England get slender lead. The morning session was washed away due to rain. However, Sri Lankan pacers, particularly, Asitha Fernando removed Ben Duckett and Ollie Pope and gave Sri Lanka a great start. Daniel Lawrence and Joe Root had a slender partnership but Vishwa Fernando removed the former one.
Joe Root and Harry Brook then played some classy shots to to rebuild England's innings. Root was dismissed by Asitha Fernando, but Harry Brook played a fine knock by notching up a vital fifty. And then Wicket-keeper batter Jamie Smith proved his mettle by another fantastic fifty to help England get some slender lead.
Chris Woakes also contributed with some crucial runs but Prabath Jayasuriya's beauty.
England are currently on 259-6, with a lead of 23 runs. Jamie Smith is unbeaten on 72* and England will be hoping him to stay till the end to get the lead past over 100 runs.
While, the Sri Lanka will be looking to remove Smith earlier of tomorrow's morning. England seems to be slightly ahead at the moment but it's still anyone's game as some quick wickets in the tomorrow's morning session will change the course of the match.
