West Indies have defeated England by 10 runs on Friday (15th December) to lead the series by 2-0. Brandon King's scintillating 82* off 52 and Rovman Powell's firing 50 off 28 balls helped West Indies post 176 on the board. It was a close contest but West Indies managed to win it.
Earlier, England won the toss and opted to bowl first. Coming out to bat, West Indies opening pair added 43 runs to the tally. They had a little collapse then as Nicholas Pooran, Shai Hope and Shimron Hetmayer got out cheaply in span of just 10 runs and West Indies were reeling at 54-4.
After a brief collapse, Brandon King and Rovman Powell took the onus on their shoulders. They had a thumping partnership of 80 runs. Powell made a blitzkrieg 50 off just 28 balls including 30 off Sam Curran's single over which shifted the momentum towards West Indies.
Brandon King was there till the backend of the innings and helped West Indies post a competitive 176-7 after alloted 20 overs. Brandon King was unbeaten on his individual 82 off only 52 deliveries with a jaw dropping strike rate of 157.69.
In reply, England started scratchily as they lost their skipper earlier on. Akeal Hossain removed him with a beauty. Philip Salt and Will Jacks got starts but couldn’t convert them into big ones. Sam Curran tried to take revenge with the bat as he went for scoring 50 from 32 deliveries but couldn’t go pass West Indies total.
At the end, some late hits from Moeen Ali and Rehan Ahmed helped England score 166 on the board but ultimately they were edge short of 10 runs and lost the match.
