Ireland fast bowler Boyd Rankin, who has represented England as well, has announced retirement from international cricket and provincial cricket with immediate effect. Boyd Rankin announces retirement

Rankin has played 3 Tests, 75 ODIs and 50 T20Is in total for Ireland and England. He took 169 wickets in international cricket during his 18-year long journey. Rankin's career highlights include beating Pakistan, Bangladesh and England in World Cups, taking the first Test wicket for Ireland, and taking part in an Ashes Test. He played his part in beating Bangladesh twice - 2/42 in Bridgetown in 2007 WC and 3/43 in Belfast in 2010. The tall lanky fast bowler played the Sydney Ashes Test in 2014 for England. He also played 7 ODIs and 2 T20Is for his adopted country. He is the only cricketer to represent two nations in Test cricket. "To retire from international cricket is always a tough call, but I feel now is the right time to step away. I have put my heart and soul into playing cricket professionally since 2003 and have loved every minute of it. I never dreamt I would play for Ireland as much as I did and to travel the world playing in numerous World Cups and to pull on the Irish jersey is something I will never forget. To have also a long career in county cricket especially during my 11-year stint with Warwickshire where we won the County Championship, 50-over competition twice and the T20 Blast in 2014 was very special and something I am very grateful for," Rankin said in a statement. "I always strived to be the best player I could be and to play at the highest level possible, so to make my Test debut for England during a time when Ireland wasn't a Test-playing nation was a very proud moment. I will miss all the guys I played alongside the most and enjoying the wins we had along the way." Ranking returned to Ireland mix in 2016, and played his last international match during the 2020 tour of India against Afghanistan. The 36-year-old played three matches for North-West Warriors in Ireland's domestic one-day tournament this year, with his last match being on May 21.
