Former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali has refused to criticise Virat Kohli for his recent struggles against Bangladesh, showing faith in the Indian star to rediscover his form during the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia. Kohli, who failed to score big in the first Test at Chennai’s Chepauk Stadium, registered scores of 6 and 17, leaving fans concerned about his touch ahead of crucial matches.

In the first inning, Kohli was caught chasing a wide delivery from Hasan Mahmud, nicking it to the wicketkeeper, Litton Das. His second-inning dismissal was more controversial, as he opted not to review an LBW decision against Mehidy Hasan Miraz, only to later find out that the ball had lightly brushed his bat before hitting the pads. Had Kohli reviewed, he would have survived, but the moment passed, and India’s star batter walked back with just 17 runs to his name.

Despite these setbacks, Basit Ali is confident that Kohli’s struggles against Bangladesh are only temporary. Ali pointed out that big players sometimes lose concentration against weaker teams, but rise to the occasion when faced with stronger opposition. “Big players lose concentration against weak teams,” he said, suggesting that Kohli will shine in the upcoming series against Australia.

“Virat Kohli will score runs against Australia. He will like the wickets down under. Big cricketers lose concentration against weak teams, but they perform well against challenging opponents,” he said.

Basit Ali also praised India’s recent performances at home and abroad, stating that India will not allow Australia to win the Border-Gavaskar Trophy this year. “India don’t only win at home, and they have defeated Australia in Australia in the previous two series. India won’t allow Australia to win the upcoming series,” he added.
