Former India spinner Harbhajan Singh has expressed confidence that India will qualify for the World Test Championship (WTC) Final if they secure a victory in the upcoming pink-ball Test against Australia at the Adelaide Oval starting on December 6. India already leads the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 with a commanding 1-0 after their emphatic 295-run win in the first Test at Perth.

Speaking to PTI, Harbhajan highlighted that winning the second Test would boost India’s chances of reaching the WTC final, but he also emphasized the need to maintain focus beyond just reaching the final.

"If they win another game, I think India will go into the WTC (final) but it’s not important to reach there, it’s important to win," Harbhajan said.

India requires a 4-0 series victory over Australia to secure their spot in the WTC final, and they have made a strong start by winning the first Test. However, the team has mixed memories of Adelaide, where they were bowled out for their lowest Test score of 36 during a previous pink-ball match at the venue.

Harbhajan also lauded KL Rahul for his crucial knock of 77 runs in the second innings at Perth, despite ongoing scrutiny over his form.

"KL Rahul, and we talk so much about him... but in the end, you see, if you give a (long) run to a player, he is a quality player," Harbhajan noted.

With both Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill set to return for the second Test, Harbhajan believes India will become even stronger and can continue their dominance in the series.

"It’s so good to see Team India the way they have played, and I hope they will continue the way they have been playing and go on to win a series there," he concluded.
