Preview: India vs Sri Lanka, Nidahas Trophy, Match-1

With the postponement of this year's edition of the Indian Premier League, BCCI and the Indian Cricket team are gearing up for the final of the ICC World Test Championship. In the Final, India will face New Zealand which will be played at Southampton, England. Following the Test Championship Final, India will play a five-match Test series against England which will kickstart India's next Test Championship. Between the two assignments, India will have more than one month gap and India are scheduled to tour Sri Lanka for limited-overs series, where none of the Indian players in the Test squad won't be participating. BCCI President Sourav Ganguly earlier confirmed that India will play five T20Is, and three ODIs during the tour. Later there was a hesitation on BCCI's side regarding the five-match T20I series. BCCI wanted to cut it as a three-match series. However, the tour will boost Sri Lanka Cricket's revenue after facing financial troubles due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic situation. As a remedy for that, the board is asking the visiting teams to play more matches. This will help to increase the revenue of the board. Considering the request, BCCI finally agreed to play the five-match T20I series in Sri Lanka. “India agreed to double the number of matches in their upcoming tour and this means we will get more revenue from television rights,” Shammi Silva, Sri Lanka Cricket President told. Sri Lanka are scheduled to host South Africa in August, Scotland in September and Afghanistan in November, following the India series.
