However, the BCB is still optimistic about hosting the Asia XI and World XI matches.
Due to coronavirus, the deadline for the celebration of Bangabandhu's birth centenary has been extended till next December. The board wants to host Asia XI and World XI matches within this period.
After the celebration of Bangabandhu's 101st birthday on Wednesday (March 17), the BCB president Nazmul Hassan Papon told reporters in Mirpur, “Since the birth centenary has been celebrated till December, we are seeing a glimpse of hope. Maybe it can be arranged again. At the same time, we have to keep in mind that the coronavirus situation is getting worse now. We have to keep an eye on that too - the situation does not go in any direction. But of course we want to do this tournament as soon as possible.”
Papon said there had been no new plans for the Asia XI and World XI matches. However, board are getting prepared for the matches.
“The discussions have been started recently, that’s not like this. But we are taking a preparation - what can be done when, with whom to play, what kind of players can be available, from what time they can be available. We will contact them after this has been done.
“Our plan was to get in touch with them within this month, as the severity of Covid-19 attack was reduced. But now I am a little apprehensive about the way it is growing. Many countries, however, have gone into lockdown. It is difficult to say what will happen next. There is a little uncertainty if you think in that direction. But I can assure you that if we get a chance or at the first opportunity we will organize these two games,” Papon added.
