The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has revealed that a decision is yet to be made regarding the release of the Bangladeshi cricketers for the entire duration of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024.
Three prominent Bangladeshi pacers—Taskin Ahmed, alongside Mustafizur Rahman, and Shoriful Islam—are slated to be part of the IPL 2024 auction set for December 19. Mustafizur has set his base price at INR 2 Crore, while Taskin and Shoriful have been bracketed at INR 75 Lakh and INR 50 Lakh, respectively.
However, the anticipation of their possibility of getting a team is clouded by uncertainty, given the Bangladesh Cricket Board's reluctance to release them for the entire season due to potential conflicts with national team commitments. The Board is also focused on ensuring the careful management of their premier bowlers in preparation for the upcoming World T20.
The IPL is scheduled to commence on March 24, coinciding with Bangladesh's hosting of Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka's arrival, originally expected in the last week of February, has been rescheduled to the first week of March to accommodate the Bangladesh Premier League, the country's exclusive franchise-based T20 tournament, featuring two Tests, three ODIs, and T20Is.
In April and May, Bangladesh is slated to host Zimbabwe for two Tests and five T20Is. Jalal Yunus, Chairman of BCB's cricket operations, expressed reservations regarding players participating in the IPL if it conflicts with national team commitments.
"If the IPL conflicts with our national team, in that case, their chances of playing the full tournament are very slim," he was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.
He further added, "Furthermore, with the World T20 in June, we want to exercise caution in managing our players, taking into consideration their injury management. For that reason, we intend to take proactive steps with due consideration of all relevant factors."
