Bangladesh are improving day by day in field cricket as well as in umpiring. As a result, Bangladeshi umpires are now getting opportunities in big events besides franchise cricket. Like last year, a Bangladeshi umpire will be seen in the Asia Cup this year, who will also officiate in the Asian Games.

Last year, Bangladesh had several umpires in the Asia Cup, but this time only Masudur Rahman Mukul is going. Last year in the Asia Cup of the T20 format, he won praise for his faithful duty in two India-Pakistan matches. This time, however, Asian Cricket Council (ACC) is not taking more than one umpire from the participating countries. Because ICC elite panel umpires are also coming to conduct the Asia Cup. And so Mukul was selected by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) based on his performance.

Iftekhar Rahman Mithu, chairman of the BCB umpires committee, said, "Fewer umpires have been requested from the Asia Cup this time. Last time they wanted 2 because of the T20 format. This time, the umpire will come from the ICC elite panel for ODIs, and one from each country has been requested. According to the last year’s performance, Mukul did the best, this time to Mukul is going.”

After the Asia Cup, the Asian Games will be held in China. Mukul will fly directly to China from Sri Lanka to attend the cricket event there. An umpire from Bangladesh has also been sought in the Asian Games. 

Meanwhile, another Bangladeshi umpire, Sharfuddoula Ibne Shahid Saikat, has been given responsibility in the Afghanistan -Pakistan bilateral series. He will be seen officiating the important responsibility of match management in this three-match ODI series to be held in Sri Lanka before the Asia Cup.
