Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) is one of the best cricket grounds in the world. SCG has witnessed many historic events in cricket. But Bangladesh have never played on this ground which was established 174 years ago in 1848 in Sydney, Australia. The Tigers are going to make their debut at this venue with their second Super 12 match against South Africa in the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup.

With 174 years of cricket tradition in its heart, Shakib's voice was overjoyed at the pre-match press conference before the match at the SCG. But there were also suppressed regrets. The Bangladesh captain never played at SCG in his 16-year international career. However, the Tigers captain did not hesitate to express his excitement before going to play on this historic ground.

Shakib said, “It is a very good ground. A very historical place. Where the whole team including me is going to play for the first time. Being able to finally play at a venue like this will definitely do us a little bit of excitement. Although I should have played some matches before. But that didn't happen. As it is happening now, it's an opportunity for everyone to do something big for the country in a tournament like this at a place like this."

Until the 19th century, the site of the SCG was a garbage dump. Now it is the holder and bearer of modernity and cricketing tradition in the establishment. In 2007, two legends late Shane Warne and Glenn McGrath bid farewell to Test cricket in the same match at this ground. SCG has witnessed the only triple century of Australia World Cup-winning captain Michael Clarke's career. Besides, the famous partnership of 353 runs of two Indian legends Sachin Tendulkar and VVS Laxman is in this field.

With a win against the Netherlands, Bangladesh got their first win in the Super 12 of the World Cup in the current edition. For their second match, Bangladesh will enter the field at 9 am Bangladesh time on Thursday against South Africa to make the SCG memorable.
