This news comes as the PCB prepares to finalize new central contracts for national players. A new, smaller selection committee will be responsible for making these decisions. While the players' salaries are expected to remain unchanged, a demotion from Category A would signify a drop in their ranking within the team.

Pakistan's T20 World Cup campaign ended in the group stage after defeats to the United States and India. The team's performance, particularly these crucial losses, has reportedly prompted the PCB to reassess player positions.

In contrast, Shan Masood seems likely to retain his captaincy for the upcoming Test series against Bangladesh. Discussions regarding the Test squad are already underway, with Masood, head coach Jason Gillespie, and the selection committee collaborating on selections.

Sources suggest that Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, and Shaheen Shah Afridi might be rested for the Bangladesh Tests. Haris Rauf is also reportedly not under consideration for selection.
