After their disappointing T20 World Cup campaign, Pakistan are taking the upcoming Test series against Bangladesh very seriously. The team management has imposed restrictions on players participating in franchise leagues and is now considering strategic changes in the lineup before the series begins. One of the key changes could involve altering the batting order.

Babar Azam, who usually bats either as an opener or at the one-down position, might be seen batting at No. 4 during the Test series against Bangladesh. According to sources close to the Pakistan team, as reported by the Times of India, the team management is contemplating this shift to bring more stability to the middle-order.

It has been confirmed that Abdullah Shafique will open the innings, while captain Shan Masood is set to bat at number three. If Babar bats at four, the team believes it will strengthen the middle order.

This wouldn’t be the first time Babar Azam has batted lower down the order. He was previously moved to number three during Pakistan’s tour of Sri Lanka in 2022 and also played at the same position against England later that year. The potential change in Babar’s batting position against Bangladesh could be part of a long-term strategy.

Pakistan are also expected to test some new players in this series, with Mohammad Huraira possibly making his debut. In the bowling department, the conditions in Rawalpindi might see Shaheen Shah Afridi and Naseem Shah being joined by Mir Hamza, along with a spinner in the lineup.

The two-match Test series is set to begin on August 21. While spectators will be allowed in the first Test, the second Test, starting on August 30 in Karachi, will be played behind closed doors.
