Pacer Michael Nesser has been included in the Australia squad for the ongoing ODI series against South Africa. He has been taken as an additional cricketer in the team due to the injury of several cricketers.
The 33-year-old Neser has played 2 ODIs for Australia so far. He made his ODI debut in 2018. Neser will join the team before the third ODI of the series.
"'He is an experienced all-format cricketer who will provide us with an extra fast bowling option should that be required for the remainder of the tour," selector Tony Dodemaide said.
Australia have been hit with injuries badly in recent times. Regular captain Pat Cummins is unable to play in this series due to injury. Besides, Mitchell Starc is not playing in this series due to injury also. Spencer Johnson, who was called up as Starc's replacement, is also suffering from an injury. Cameron Green also got injured while playing in the first ODI. As a result, Australia have fallen into some trouble due to so many injuries. That's why Nesar has been called as a substitute cricketer.
Two regular faces Steven Smith and Glenn Maxwell are also missing from this series due to minor injuries. However, even if pacer Johnson is injured, Australia is keeping him with the team. They will also take him on the upcoming tour of India. The Australian team management wants to take a very careful decision about him.
However, injury-hit Australia won the first match of the five-match ODI series. Australia is leading 1-0 in the series now.
