South Africans are now on a tour to Sri Lanka for 2 tests, 5 ODIs and one off T20I. The test series was recently concluded and Lankans had a clean sweep over visitors by winning both tests comfortably. The team was led by Suranga Lakmal as the regular captain Dinesh Chandimal was handed over a ban of 2 tests and 4 ODIs for breaching ICC codes in the 2^nd test against Windies on their Caribbean tour. As he is the current ODI captain also Sri Lankan Cricket board is forced to find a new captain. On 24^th July the board announced the squad for the ODI series against South Africa. Aangelo Mathews, the former skipper was named again as captain. In the beginning of the year he resigned his captaincy as he is continuously affected by injuries. His fitness has been a serious issue for the team over the last one year. Back in 2017 when India toured Sri Lanka the hosts had 3 captains for the 5 match ODI series due to this injury issue The team announced by the board have some several changes compared to their last ODI squad played against Bangladesh. Danushka Gunathilaka’s name is missing as he is suspended for one year because of his alleged behaviour with two foreigners during test series. Asela Gunaratne, Dushmantha Chameera, Nuwan Pradeep, Shehan Madushanka and Wanidu Hasaranga are the other exclusions. The series will kickstart on 29^th July in Dambulla.
