Andrew Flintoff has been added to England's coaching staff for the upcoming T20 World Cup. Just before the World Cup, Flintoff will be in the English coaching staff in the T20 series against Pakistan. ECB Director of Men's Cricket Rob Key has also said that he will be considered as the head coach in the future.    

Rob Key confirmed Flintoff's appointment to the coaching staff at The Telegraph. Key spoke in detail about Flintoff in an interview given to the media. He also gave a glimpse of becoming the head coach in the future.

Flintoff will serve as the head coach of Northern Superchargers, a team in England's domestic tournament The Hundred. Besides, he has previously worked with England's limited overs team in the Caribbean tour. He also worked as a mentor for England Under-19 and Lions teams as well. Rob Key and Flintoff are very close friends. The two have had a good relationship since playing in England jersey. Apart from hinting about Flintoff becoming the head coach this time, he praised Flintoff in various ways.

“Without question, I think he would be an excellent head coach. He will be a worthy candidate going forward. When that time comes and whoever is in this job, and it might be outside of my time, they would be stupid not to look at him,” Key told Telegraph.

Key added, “Flintoff is a leader like (Ben) Stokes. Just having someone who knows what it is like to struggle and come out the other end is so relatable to those players. When they have had a bad day, he can explain it. He has high emotional intelligence so he understands when you need a bit of an arm around your shoulder or blunt honesty. Those are the skills that make a great leader.”

On June 1, West Indies and the United States will host the T20 World Cup. England's partners in Group 'B' are Australia, Namibia, Oman and Scotland.
