In a new preview for his show Field of Dreams, Andrew "Freddie" Flintoff discusses his terrifying near-death vehicle accident.
The cricketer's "horrifying" mishap in December 2022 on set of Top Gear, when Freddie's car flipped over at Dunsfold airfield in Surrey leaving him 'lucky to be alive' caused the BBC to announce that the car show would be on hiatus for "foreseeable future" due to the "inappropriate" nature of continuing production.
After the accident in England's opening one-day international versus New Zealand in September 2023, Flintoff returned to public view for the first time since the incident.
Since then, Flintoff has been hard at work filming Freddie Flintoff's Field of Dreams, a new television project, and has reached a £9 million financial settlement with the corporation's commercial department, BBC Studios. But despite his appearance the incident has gone unmentioned in any interviews with the 46-year-old.
As the four-part series' trailer shows Flintoff's face and the scars from his injuries plainly on screen, he says "something happened that's changed my life forever"—a possible signal that he could open up about the accident."This is the story of the most unlikely cricket tour that almost didn't happen," the narrator exclaims following Flintoff's confession. After the success of the 2022 series, in which Flintoff assembled a cricket squad out of a motley crew of youngsters from his native Preston, Lancashire, this year's Field of Dreams On Tour will take place in the same vein. They are scheduled to tour India this time.
"This will be a huge comfort to his fans because it shows he's healing well and returning to two of his greatest passions - sport and television," a source told The Sun on his presence on the show. This summer, BBC iPlayer and BBC One will host Field of Dreams On Tour.
