Royal Challengers Bangaluru beat Chennai Super Kings by 28 runs on Sunday (19th May). Faf du Plessis' brilliant fifty along with his great run on the field helped RCB beat CSK to reach to the playoffs after losing 5 matches in a row.
Being asked to bat first, RCB had a flying start. Courtesy the opening stand of Royal Challengers Bangaluru - Kohli and Faf Du Plessis. The duo added 78 runs on the opening stand before Virat Kohli fell to Mitchell Santner on 47 off 29 balls. Faf Du Plessis, however, brought up a brilliant fifty and scored a fine 54 off 39 balls before falling to an unlucky run-out.
Rajat came at number and flourished RCB's innings with his blistering knock, scoring a great 41 off 23 deliveries, including 4 sixes and 2 boundaries before falling to Shardul Thakur. Aussie all-rounders duo, Cameron Green and Glenn Maxwell shone in RCB's must win game. The former one was unbeaten till the end and the latter one came with all the guns blazing to race his way to 16 off 5 balls, while the former one made a fine 38 off 17, which helped RCB post a massive 218 on the board.
In reply, CSK had a horrid start in pursuit of 219. Glenn Maxwell removed Ruturaj Gaikwad for a golden duck. Daryl Mirchell too couldn’t get going, fell cheaply. Rachin Ravindra had a good outing and scored a brilliant 61 off just 37 balls before outstanding fielding from Lomror took him out.
The middle order collapsed horribly for CSK. But Ravindra Jadeja and MS Dhoni tried with everything at the backend of the innings. As the duo couldn’t make their franchise win.
With the win, RCB have joined with KKR, RR and SRH to be added to the play-offs of the IPL 2024. Now RCB will have an eliminator match against SRH.
