New Zealand got off to a good start by defeating England by 9 wickets in the first match of the ICC World Cup 2023 in Ahmedabad. There were many records in the first match of the World Cup. 

After losing the toss and batting first, England scored 282 runs for 9 wickets. Each of the 11 England batters touched double figures. Chris Woakes and Moeen Ali scored a minimum of 11 runs. It is the first time in the history of ODIs that every 11 players in a team have scored double figures with the bat. 

However, the English could not win the match on the day of making this feat. England's bowling attack was dismantled by New Zealand's Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra. Rachin-Conway's double-century stand won the match for New Zealand with 82 balls in hand. 

Opener Will Young departed at the team’s 10 runs by Sam Curran. After that, England could take any wickets. Conway and Ravindra put on a partnership of 273 runs. This is New Zealand's highest run-scoring partnership for the second wicket in ODIs. Earlier, Martin Guptill and Will Young's 203-run partnership was the highest for New Zealand's second wicket. 

Devon Conway was unbeaten on 152 off 121 balls. This is now the highest score for New Zealand in the World Cup in the chase. Earlier, Scott Styris who scored 141 runs in the second innings against Sri Lanka was the owner of this record.  

Andrew Strauss holds the record for the highest innings in the run chase in the World Cup. He was unbeaten on 158 runs against India in the 2011 World Cup. Conway with 152 runs is next in the list of records. 

On Thursday, Ravindra turned 23 years and 321 days old, making him the youngest player from New Zealand to score a hundred at the men's ODI World Cup. Nathan Astle made 101 against England at Ahmedabad in 1996 when he was 24 years and 152 days old. He was the youngest player to do so.

Ravindra is also the second-youngest player to score a hundred in their first World Cup match. Virat Kohli, who was 22 years and 106 days old when he did it against Bangladesh in the first game of the 2011 tournament, is the youngest player to do so.

Also, In just 36.2 overs, New Zealand beat England's target of 283, making it the fastest 250-plus target chase in the history of the men's ODI World Cup. In 2015, India beat Ireland by 260 runs in 36.5 overs, which was the fastest ever.
