Opener Abid Ali scored his maiden Test double hundred, also becoming the second Pakistani to do so in Zimbabwe after Younis Khan. He remained unbeaten on 215 runs off 407 deliveries. 29 of them went for four. Pakistan declared on 510/8 after 147.1 overs to add to their overnight score of 268/4. Azhar Ali made a hundred (126) in a 236-run second-wicket stand with Abid. Zimbabwe reduced Pakistan to 341/7 with three strikes before the arrival of No.9 Nauman Ali who played a surreal knock. While Abid was steering his way to 200, Nauman unleashed all the power but fell short of a maiden hundred. Before this match, he had highest score of 64 in 125 first-class innings. Nauman's stay ended in a clumsy way as he could not put his foot on the ground off Tendai Chisoro's bowling. He had to go back making an entertaining 104-ball 97 with 9 fours and 5 sixes. Abid and Nauman studded a 169-run partnership in only 33.1 overs for the eighth-wicket. The hosts were one down very early, with 36-year-old debutant Tabish Khan getting Tarisai Musakanda lbw in the second over. Hassan Ali, Shaheen Shah Afridi and Sajid Khan also got among the wickets, as Zimbabwe headed to stumps at 52/4. Stand-in skipper Brendan Taylor made 9, while Regis Chakabva remains 28 not out in 71 balls.
