Ahead of the second and final Test between India and Bangladesh, former Indian opener Aakash Chopra has voiced his confidence in the form of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. Despite their low scores in the first Test, Chopra doesn't see their form as a cause for concern. India will face Bangladesh in Kanpur on Friday, September 27, and while both Sharma and Kohli had quiet outings in Chennai, Chopra believes it's all part of the game.

Captain Rohit Sharma managed just 11 runs in both innings, while Kohli contributed 23 runs, with neither player making a significant impact. However, in a video posted on his YouTube channel, Aakash Chopra addressed the discussions surrounding their form and put things into perspective.

"I will say it's not a concern. It happens at times that runs aren't scored. Runs not getting scored could be a concern if it's a long patch. They played in the T20 World Cup final and both left at an amazing high," Chopra remarked

Chopra further added that Rohit Sharma showed promising signs during the recent ODI series against Sri Lanka, though Kohli had a dip in form after his match-winning performance in the 2024 T20 World Cup final. Both players, he suggested, might have benefitted from a rest but were called up for the Sri Lanka ODIs.

"After that, you wish to take a little leave and rest. However, they were sent to Sri Lanka for the ODIs. Rohit Sharma looked very good. He didn't face any difficulties. Virat Kohli didn't score runs there and after that, there was no other cricket," Chopra added.

Chopra also touched on the fact that neither Rohit nor Kohli played in the Duleep Trophy before the first Test. While he didn't see this as a major issue, he hinted that their performance could have been sharpened with some domestic game time before the series.

"They didn't play in the Duleep Trophy and I know there was a question attached to your question, about whether not playing the Duleep Trophy became a cause for concern for them. Maybe it would have been better if they had played because there is no hesitation or shame in playing," Chopra continued

The second Test between India and Bangladesh is set to take place at Green Park in Kanpur, starting on Friday, September 27, at 9:30 AM IST.
