Wasim Akram, a former Pakistani cricket legend, recently gave his thoughts on numerous left-arm pacers following the conclusion of the T20 World Cup 2024. Akram, known for his perceptive analysis and in-depth knowledge of fast bowling, provided ratings and vital advice to those bowlers.
Trent Boult, Arshdeep Singh, Mitchell Starc, and Mustafizur Rahman were among the players reviewed, with Wasim Akram giving Indian teenager Arshdeep Singh an excellent eight out of ten. Akram emphasised the need of Singh expanding his focus to include Test cricket, encouraging him to hone his talents in multiple forms.
"Very impressive, very talented. He should be focusing on four-day cricket too because he has swing and pace. He swings the ball both ways and the new ball comes in decently. I think he has got the potential to be a regular bowler for India. I hope he has Test cricket on his mind because you will make money in T20s and you will make your name for one year in T20s," he added.
"However, if you have to leave a legacy, you have to think about long-format cricket. People should be talking about you even 10-20 years after your retirement that no such bowler came in cricket history. These young bowlers should have that kind of mindset. No doubt, he has got the potential. I would give him eight," Akram added.
Arshdeep Singh, the promising left-arm pacer from India, has been making waves in the cricketing world with his impressive performances across formats. With 79 wickets in 52 T20Is and 10 scalps in six ODIs to his name, Singh has consistently proven his mettle in white-ball cricket. Moreover, his contribution of 49 dismissals in 16 first-class games underscores his versatility and potential as he sets his sights on a Test cricket debut in the near future.
