India's captain Rohit Sharma continues to struggle in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, managing just 19 runs in three innings so far. His poor form in Test cricket has raised concerns, particularly as the skipper has shifted from his usual opening position to the middle order, making way for KL Rahul at the top.

Former Indian test batter Cheteshwar Pujara weighed in on Rohit's form slump, attributing it in part to his unfamiliarity with batting at number 6. Pujara believes the shift in batting position has disrupted Rohit’s rhythm and created uncertainty in his approach.

Speaking about the impact of the change, Pujara said:

"He has been opening the innings, now he's batting at number 6. That is for the team, but I still feel that when you're so used to opening and have to wait, it creates doubt. It doesn't help when you're used to opening, and suddenly you're at number 6. You lose that momentum."

Rohit’s recent struggles were evident during the third Test in Brisbane, where he managed only 10 runs off 27 balls before edging a Pat Cummins delivery to the wicketkeeper. Pujara offered his analysis of Rohit’s dismissal, suggesting that the captain misjudged the length of the ball and should have played more defensively.

"It wasn't a length where you can drive. Even a fuller-length ball is hard to drive on this pitch. He kind of tried to punch that ball. He should have defended it and let the ball come to him rather than going for it," Pujara explained.

"The tough part is that Rohit hasn't been amongst runs, and that's where the pressure comes in." He said.
