The CSA (Cricket South Africa) has announced a 15-member squad for the upcoming three-match T20I series against the West Indies. Fast bowler Kwena Maphaka and top-order batter Jason Smith have been called up for the very first time.

Kwena Maphaka South Africa are currently on the West Indies tour, playing the two-match Test series, which will be followed by 3 T20I's. Already one Test has been played and the match was drawn. The second Test will begin from Thursday (15th August). The T20I series is set to be commenced from Saturday (24th August).

South Africa's head coach Rob Walter said in a statement on the T20I squad:

“Several players were not considered for this series due to either injury, being in a conditioning block that is related to workload management, or their participation in ongoing T20 leagues."

Young speedster Kwena Maphaka, who stole the show in ICC Men's U-19 World Cup 2024 and top order batter Jason Smith have got their maiden calls for the national team.

Speaking on their inclusion, Walter said:

"We’re excited to have Jason [Smith] and Kwena [Maphaka] join the squad for this series. Jason’s recent performances have been impressive, and his ability to contribute with both bat and ball adds valuable depth to our line-up."

Waltar also hailed the 18-year old faster bowler, Maphaka, saying he's significant potential.

“Kwena has been identified as a player with significant potential, and this tour presents a great opportunity to include him in the Proteas environment and gain valuable international experience.”
