South Africa batter Heinrich Klaasen reveals that ODI like mindset gives them the success in their narrow 4-run win against Bangladesh in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

South Africa beat Bangladesh by 4 runs in another low scoring thriller in New York on Monday (June 11). Tanzim Hasan Sakib ran riot through the South African top order to leave them reeling at 24-4. However, David Miller and Heinrich Klaasen depicted a comeback partnership to bring Proteas back into the game before Bangladesh pulled things back in the death overs. In reply, the bowlers of South Africa showed their class to hand Proteas a 4-run narrow victory over Bangladesh.

Miller and Klaasen made a 79-run partnership from 79 balls for fifth wicket and gave South Africa a fighting total of 113 runs in the matches. Klaasen scored 46 runs of 44 balls with 2 fours and 3 sixes. And Miller scored 29 runs off 38 balls with a four and a six.

In the last match also, South Africa lost 4 wickets for just 12 runs in the chase of 104 runs. But then Miller made a good partnership with Tristan Stubbs and picked up the win for South Africa on the same pitch with the unbeaten innings of 59 runs off 51 balls.

“David showed us in the previous game how to bat on this wicket. Almost similar the way we bat in the middle-order in the one-day game. So our mindset was not even close to the T20 cricket. You just want to get in and find a way to get a run a ball and we know one or two hits aways just for going over run-a-ball strike-rate.

“India and Pakistan yesterday-even the two great teams struggled to get 120. So that just means we had to change our mindset completely. You just can’t stand there and smack it all over the park. So we had more or less of a one-day mindset today. Myself and David in the middle. And that seemed to be working and then in the last three overs we looked to take the game in a little bit more T20 style,” Klaasen said.
