We couldn't find a slot for him in our DC team: Ponting talks about Prithvi Shaw's disappointing performance
After spending three IPL seasons with the young Indian, Ponting believes Shaw has failed to live up to his potential, which in a perfect world would have secured him a spot in a team's starting lineup.

Ricky Ponting, the former head coach of the Delhi Capitals, has acknowledged that he lost faith in Prithvi Shaw after the young player consistently fell short of expectations.
After spending three IPL seasons with the young Indian, Ponting believes Shaw has failed to live up to his potential, which in a perfect world would have secured him a spot in a team's starting lineup.
“I mean to start with I don't like talking about individual players, but Prithvi shouldn't be an outlier. He should be someone that's in every team; the first pick in most teams with the skill that he's got. He's had a chance to represent India as a youngster, making a hundred on his Test debut,” Ponting told Cricbuzz.
“And as you say, halfway through this year, we couldn't find a slot for him in our DC team. So that's disappointing for me as a coach not to be able to make certain players better and get the best out of them. But sometimes there's only so much you can give and so many times you can try,” he added.
Shaw has had two respectable IPL seasons with the Delhi Capitals, amassing 479 runs in 2021 and 353 runs in 2019. But for the child, 2024 and 2023 have been terrible. In 16 games over the course of two seasons, he has only managed to score 304 runs.
