New Zealand have whitewashed India in India after a close victory at the Wankhede by 25 runs on Sunday (November 3). Ajaz Patel's venomous six wicket-haul trumped India in the small yet tricky chase.
The Blackcaps middle-order batter Daryl Mitchell, whose 82 was the top score from both side on a turning Wankhede track was elated after the sensational 25-run victory over India in Mumbai.
“Seriously special to win a Test match here but also to win a series. Something you dream of but to come here and achieve against a world-class Indian team.”
His first innings 82 was followed by a crucial 21 in the second innings that stitched a 50-run stand for New Zealand with Will Young, whereas New Zealand eventually ended at 174 in the second innings.
Mitchell lauded New Zealand’s measured approach on a trying wicket for their win in Mumbai.
“We saw the surface is turning big and knew in our second innings how challenging it was. We wanted to survive as long as we could and wanted to land the ball in the right areas and wait for our chances. We are just a bunch of Kiwis taking on the world and are proud of doing so.”
After the win, New Zealand have moved up to No. 4 position in the WTC ladder, whereas India have dropped down the top spot to Australia and demoted to No. 2.
