Ravichandran Ashwin displayed not only his bowling prowess but also his incredible fielding skills on Day 2 of the third Test against New Zealand at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Ashwin pulled off a remarkable catch to dismiss Daryl Mitchell just when the partnership between Mitchell and Will Young was beginning to threaten India’s chances.

The brilliant moment came as Ashwin sprinted backwards to take a high catch, much to the delight of the crowd at Wankhede. The off-spinner’s sharp reflexes ignited cheers, and his effort was lauded by both fans and experts alike.

In the post-day presentation, Ashwin had a light-hearted exchange with his former teammate and commentator Dinesh Karthik. Karthik, who is currently part of the commentary team, praised Ashwin’s catch and asked him about his thoughts while standing at mid-on. Karthik said:

"What a good catch that was. What were you thinking standing at mid-on? Did you see something like that coming your way?"

Ashwin humorously responded, reminding Karthik of the past criticisms regarding his fielding. He said:

"For all the flak you've given me over the years. I don't think you've seen me drop too many."

When discussing the match situation, Ashwin was optimistic about wrapping up New Zealand’s innings quickly on Day 3, with the visitors having a 143-run lead. 

"Hopefully not many, we should wrap it up with one or two runs here and there. Any runs saved in this innings is going to be much more critical for us when we chase it down. It's not going to be easy, we'll have to bat really well. I expected a lot more bounce and speed from this Mumbai pitch, it has been quite slow which is a surprise for me. It's not a typical Bombay pitch, but much slower than usual," he said.
