In a unique turn of events during the 36th match of the Big Bash League (BBL) 2024-25 between Brisbane Heat and Hobart Hurricanes at the Gabba, play was halted due to a fire breaking out in the DJ booth. The incident occurred at the end of the fourth over of Hobart Hurricanes’ run chase, sending a wave of panic through the crowd and prompting the evacuation of nearby fans.

The fire, located in the DJ booth on the third tier of the stadium underneath the scoreboard, caused a brief delay as authorities worked swiftly to extinguish the flames. A man with a fire extinguisher was spotted attempting to put out the fire, but his initial efforts were insufficient, requiring the use of another extinguisher.

Fans seated near the booth were immediately evacuated as police took charge of the situation. Fortunately, the fire was brought under control after some serious effort, and no injuries were reported.

The brief halt did not deter the action on the field, as the game resumed shortly after the incident.

Hobart Hurricanes had earlier won the toss and elected to field. Brisbane Heat’s top order displayed a strong performance, with Usman Khawaja getting off to a blistering start, scoring 23 off just 9 balls before being dismissed by Nathan Ellis. However, it was Marnus Labuschagne and Matt Renshaw who steadied the innings for Brisbane.

Labuschagne stood out as the star performer, playing a crucial knock of 77 off 48 balls to guide Brisbane Heat to a total of 201/6 in their 20 overs. His innings, coupled with Renshaw’s valuable contribution, helped the Heat post a competitive total.
