The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced an 18-man squad for their upcoming tour of Zimbabwe, where they will play a five-match T20I series next month.

Indian cricketer Shubman GillShubman Gill will lead the young team from the front and it will be a great opportunity for him to progress the learning curve upwards as a captain. Meanwhile, former Indian cricketer, Virender Sehwag has reacted to Shubman Gill's appointment as India captain for Zimbabwe series.

According to the Nawab of Najafgarh, Shubman Gill is a worthy replacement as Indian captain for Rohit Sharma after the latter calls it quits from Tests and ODIs. Rohit Sharma is 37 years old and still has a few years of good cricket left in him. 

Interestingly, India's national selection committee did the right thing to appoint Shubman Gill as the captain, which is the ideal time for him to pick up lessons and experience on the go.

While speaking to Cricbuzz, Sehwag backed the board's decision to appoint Gill as the captain. "Shubman Gill is for the long haul. He's a player who plays all three formats. He's had a great last year. He was unlucky to miss out on the 2024 T20 World Cup. According to me, it is the right decision to make him the captain. When Rohit Sharma leaves tomorrow, Shubman Gill will be his right replacement for captaincy," the Nawab of Najafgarh added.

Shubman Gill had his first captaincy experience in IPL 2024 where he led the Gujarat Titans. Nevertheless, the Ahmedabad-based franchise failed to qualify for the playoffs for the first time since their entry into the competition in 2022.
