India star batter Virat Kohli won the ICC ODI Cricketer of the Year award in 2023. Kohli, who became the best cricketer in the 2023 ODI World Cup, won the ICC ODI Player of the Year title. Kohli has had a great year. 

Kohli scored 1377 runs in 24 innings in 2023. He was brilliant in the biggest event of the year at the home ODI World Cup. Kohli, who won the man of the tournament award, scored at least 50 runs in 9 of his 11 innings in the World Cup. He scored 765 runs, average was 95.62, strike rate was 90.31. He hit  3 centuries. 765 runs was the highest for any batter in the World Cup. He also broke Sachin Tendulkar's 2003 World Cup record of 675 runs.

Kohli hit his 50th ODI century in the World Cup semi-final against New Zealand. Sachin's record was broken here as well. Sachin's 49 centuries were the highest so far in ODI cricket. Kohli, the owner of 50 ODI centuries, broke that record and created a new record.

Despite being in the best form in the World Cup, Kohli could not lead his team India to win the World Cup at home. In the final against Australia, he got out for fifty. India's collection was not big. Australia won by having the last laugh. They brought home their sixth ODI World Cup title. Even though the team lost, Kohli won the Player of the Tournament award.

In total, Kohli scored 1377 runs in 24 innings in ODIs in 2023 at an average of 72.47. He hit 6 centuries and 8 fifties.
