Cricket Committee of Dhaka Metropolis (CCDM) and BCB officials met with the captains of nine DPL teams on Sunday (June 13). The captains of 3 teams were absent from the meeting. They could not attend the meeting because they had matches. The CCDM heard statements from the captains about umpiring in this virtual meeting.
Sheikh Sohail, BCB director and member of the investigation committee, told to BDCricTime, “Nine captains were present at the meeting. 3 captains were late to return from BKSP so they could not join.”
He said that only five members of the investigation committee were present at the virtual meeting. The other four members of the committee are CCDM chairman Kazi Inam Ahmed, two other BCB directors Jalal Yunus and Naimur Rahman Durjoy and BCB chief match referee Rakibul Hasan.
“There has been a lot of talk on the umpiring issue. The captains said how the umpiring standard can be improved. We also seek suggestion from them how to prevent controversy. We have heard all their statements. We will sit with the other three captains tomorrow,” Sohail added.
“The BCB president wants a solution through investigation. There is a board meeting the day after tomorrow, before that we have to finalize everything and come up with a constructive solution.”
Sheikh Sohail further said that umpires will be punished if any biasedness had showed. “We have made a lot of progress in cricket in the last seven-eight years. We always want the best. If the role of umpires in the investigation is questioned, they will also be punished if necessary,” he further said.
