Chennai Super Kings has been the most consistent side in the history of Indian Premier League without any doubt.

They are by far the superior side and their record in the tournament is the proof to it. They have won the lucrative tournament the joint-most three times. And they are the defending champions going into the next IPL season which is going to be played before the world cup next year. But at the same time, there are some players who because of some reasons, underperformed in the title-winning 2018 campaign of the Chennai Super Kings. And the champion side led by MS Dhoni would want to offload these players if they want to successfully defend the title. Because when you defend such a huge title, there will always be an immense pressure. Asif KM: The Kerala fast bowler was doing so well with his raw pace in the Indian domestic tournaments and that is why Chennai bought him in the IPL auctions last time around in a hope of he will trouble the top order batsmen with his fast bowling. But young Asif didn't get many opportunities in the early part of the tournament. And when he got a game, he performed horribly. He only played a couple of games in the title-winning campaign of the Super Kings. Mark Wood: England frontline bowler Mark Wood was a terrific bowler back then last year when Chennai picked him. The sole aim of the team was to unleash him in the power play to dismantle opening batsmen from the opposition teams. But he was thrashed all over the park in the opening match. Wood was dropped straight away and didn't find his place in the side again. He went back to his home country England losing hope on his IPL career. Right now he is even struggling to find his place in the England national squad. Karn Sharma: Karn Sharma was the lead spinner or Mumbai Indians when they won the title back in 2017. On the basis of that performance of his, Chennai Super Kings were desperate to land him in the auctions and paid a high amount for his services. At the same time, Super Kings bought a highly experienced spin trio of Harbhajan Singh, Ravindra Jadeja and Imran Tahir. In between these international legends, Karn failed to find his place in the side and when he got, he wasted the opportunity by some dismal bowling performances. Murali Vijay: Murali Vijay was the heart of the Chennai Super Kings before they were banned. He was their regular opener and he was sued to hit monstrous sixes and score big runs at the top of the order. But he was almost unsold in the last year's auction. Though CSK bought him in the end, it might not be the case this time around. Vijay has already lost his place in the Indian national side and is underperforming at the domestic level. This could be the end of the road for Vijay in the Indian Premier League as no other team looks interested in an out of form opener. Harbhajan Singh: The second best spinner India ever produced, Harbhajan Singh is a legendary cricketer for sure. He has been phenomenal for India as well as in the Indian Premier League over the years. He was with the Mumbai Indians for a decade. He was their leading bowler as well as their skipper in many matches. But when he shifted to Chennai last year, he was off-colour for sure. Guess, he missed the Mumbai dressing room badly. Harbhajan has stopped playing in the domestic circuit these days. He was seen commenting in professional commentary show in the ongoing West Indies tour of India and it looks like nowadays he is focusing more on the off-field careers in cricket. That's why we think that he might be released by CSK for the upcoming season of IPL.
