Bangladesh achieved a historic feat in Kingstown on December 20, 2024, completing a 3-0 series whitewash against West Indies in the T20I format. The visitors clinched the final match with a commanding 80-run victory, leaving the hosts searching for answers after a dismal performance.

West Indies captain Rovman Powell, reflecting on the loss, admitted that his team fell short in critical moments. Speaking candidly after the match, Powell highlighted their struggles: "I think in the middle overs we bowled really well. We didn't control the power plays as we wanted, and we didn't execute in the back end."

Chasing a target of 190, West Indies crumbled under pressure, losing wickets in clusters and never gaining momentum. Powell pointed out the recurring issue of early batting collapses: "Losing wickets in clusters. If we keep losing wickets in the first and second over of the power play, we’re always gonna find ourselves behind the game. It had happened to us in the last eight or so T20I games."

The captain acknowledged that this persistent problem requires immediate attention: "I said something that we have some time to rectify now. It’s us taking some time off as a team of T20I group. We don’t come together again until mid-2025. So guys have an opportunity to actually look at their game, review their game, and see the mistakes that we have made as a batting group during 2024, and hopefully, by 2025, those little mistakes will be corrected."

Earlier, Bangladesh posted an impressive 189/7, with Jaker Ali’s unbeaten 72 off 41 balls anchoring the innings. In reply, the West Indies were bowled out for just 109 in 16.4 overs, with bowlers like Rishad Hossain (3/21) and Mahedi Hasan (2/13) delivering exceptional performances.

Powell didn’t hold back in praising the visitors, acknowledging their resilience and quality cricket throughout the series: "They (Bangladesh) have been fantastic. To come to the Caribbean after a disappointing 50-over series and to come against a good T20I team. All the credit goes to them, and I wish them safe travels as well."

Rovman Powell, who assumed full-time captaincy in 2024, spoke about the highs and lows of the year: "My first full year as the captain. I started out really well, moving the team from ninth position to fourth in the world. Yeah, but it's disappointing to see the last few series falling off here just a bit. And you know, when a team is falling away, you can sense it."

He stressed the need to rebuild and come back stronger, expressing optimism for the future: "It’s something for us to rectify in 2025. But you know, I wouldn’t say that. Thanks to the boys for the effort they have given us throughout 2024 and to all the fans around the Caribbeans, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year."
