Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto feels that there will be extra confidence among players in their next match against South Africa in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

Bangladesh beat Sri Lanka by 2 wickets in a thriller on Saturday (8th June) at Grand Prairie Stadium, Dallas. Bangladesh pacers - Taskin Ahmed and Mustafizur Rahman bowled superbly with lot of variations at the start of the innings and during the death overs as well. While Rishad Hossain provided crucial breakthroughs in the middle over as he picked up Charith Asalanka and Wanindu Hasaranga in consecutive deliveries to leave Sri Lanka stutter. In the end, Sri Lanka scored 124 runs for 9 wickets in 20 overs.

In reply, Sri Lanka also bowled well on a slow pitch. But Towhid Hridoy's blitzkrieg 40 off 20 deliveries and a gutsy knock of 36 from 38 balls from Litton Das helped Bangladesh chase down the total. Though Bangladesh lost wickets in regular intervals, Mahmudullah Riyad kept his nerve cool in the end and picked up the win for Bangladesh.

“Of course, if you win such a match, everyone feels confident. Since we were able to win this match, everyone will have an extra confidence. If we can go into the second match with this confidence, it will definitely work and hopefully things will be better in the second match as well,” Shanto said.

“This win was important. The remaining 3 matches are also important. We will also have to come up with a new plan in the next match against South Africa. There is no way but to play good cricket. Especially if the batters can contribute, there will be something good in the next match as well,” he added.

Shanto dedicates the win to whole Bangladesh team. “This victory belongs to the entire Bangladesh team. The 15 players and the coaching staff all together,” he concluded.

Bangladesh will face South Africa on June 10.
