Who could imagine the splendid Kennington Oval of a picturesque green outfield as a camp for war prisoners! Yes, it was once upon in dark old days. In 1944, a place the English called ‘the people’s ground’, now the prestigious Oval cricket ground, had been taken by wartime governments to use as a camp for war prisoners. 
Let’s have a glance in the past, a remote past. Long before Oval turned out as a happy hunting ground for nineteenth century cricketers, long before unfortunate war prisoners dug their fate in the muddy, grass land of Oval.
The Kennington Oval had seen the rebirth of Ashes in 1882. And once Charles Alcock, the Victorian administrator brought not just Test cricket in Oval but also international football and Rugby union matches. And last but not the least, the scratch book of Oval even embodied with hockey and Australian Rules football.

Devon Malcom's 9 for 57 runs is the best Test bowling figure at the Oval. The only other bowler to pick the nine digit was Lankan spin legend Muttiah Muralitharan taking 9 for 65 in 1998.
