Sri Lanka captain Charith Asalanka stated that spin was their strength and they relied on it throughout the game after his team defeated India by 110 runs in the third ODI of the series on Wednesday (August 7) in Colombo.

"I am a happy captain right now. The team did all things right throughout the series. We all knew they were a strong batting line up and we wanted to back our strength. Spin was our strength and we backed it. They are in a good mood right now and our coach is very active. The boys enjoyed the team environment," Asalanka said.

Sri Lanka crashed India by 110 runs to win the ODI series by 2-0 on Wednesday (August 7) at R. Premadasa Stadium, Colombo. A fantastic 96 from Avishka Fernando and a fine 59 from Kusal Mendis helped Sri Lanka post a fighting 248 on the board. In reply, Dunith Wellalage's 5-for sent India for crashing and handed Lankans an ODI series win against India after 1997 which means after 27 years.

"After Pallekele I was very dejected. As a captain and a player, I'm desperate to win for the country. Today I'm so happy we were able to win a series. Having lost 3-0 in the T20s, we defeated an even stronger team in the ODIs. I'm happy with the way everyone in the team played, Asalanka added.

"The biggest positive was winning a series against India after 27 years. The other positives were the spinners. We had relied on Wanindu Hasaranga, but we've had [Jeffrey] Vandersay and Dunith [Wellalage] playing well here too. Also the top order batted well through the series. On difficult pitches like this, that's a big plus point."
