The Sylhet Strikers have retained two key players, Tanzim Hasan Sakib and Zakir Hasan, ahead of the upcoming Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) season. Additionally, Sylhet has secured Jaker Ali Anik through a direct contract, adding more strength to their squad.
As per BPL regulations, franchises are allowed to retain two players from the previous season before the Players’ Draft. Sylhet Strikers took this opportunity to retain Zakir Hasan and Tanzim Hasan Sakib, both of whom have been integral to the team. The news was confirmed through a post on the Sylhet Strikers' official Facebook page. Alongside retaining players, teams are permitted to sign one player via direct contract. Sylhet capitalized on this by signing wicket-keeper batter Jaker Ali Anik, who was a standout performer for Comilla Victorians last season.
Tanzim Hasan Sakib has become a regular name in Bangladesh’s T20 squad, impressing with his bowling in the recent T20 World Cup. Zakir Hasan, although more prominent in Test cricket, has also been a consistent performer in the BPL for Sylhet, making valuable contributions with the bat. On the other hand, Jaker Ali Anik's performances last season earned him a national call-up, adding further value to Sylhet's line-up.
In the 2023 edition of the BPL, Sylhet Strikers had a remarkable run under the leadership of Mashrafe Bin Mortaza. The young squad, featuring stars like Towhid Hridoy, Zakir Hasan, and Najmul Hossain Shanto, reached the final after overcoming several strong teams. However, they fell short in the final against Comilla Victorians. Despite the loss, Sylhet’s performance left a lasting impression on fans and critics alike.
With the BPL Players’ Draft scheduled for October 14, Sylhet Strikers will be looking to bolster their squad for the upcoming season.
