Former Chennai Super Kings star Suresh Raina didn’t hold back when talking about his old team’s struggles in IPL 2025. While speaking on Star Sports the veteran cricketer questioned the CSK management for failing to pick big names like Rishabh Pant, Shreyas Iyer, and KL Rahul during the auction despite having a big purse to spend.

CSK a five-time IPL champion, is having a rough ride this season. They’ve managed to win just 2 out of their first 8 games and are sitting at the bottom of the points table with the worst Net Run Rate among all teams.

Raina seemed frustrated with the decisions made at the auction table. He said:

“Mujhe lagta hai kahin na kahin inse (CSK) auction acha nahi hua hai. Auction main itne talented players, itne youngsters the. Kaha hai woh players? Aap itna paisa leke jaate ho auction ke liye. Aapne Rishabh Pant ko chhoda, Shreyas Iyer ko chhoda, KL Rahul ko chhoda. CSK team ko kabhi aise nahi dekha struggle karte hue"(I think somewhere, the coach and the management did not get the auction right. There were so many talented players in the auction, so many youngsters. Where are they? You went to the auction with so much money, but you didn't go for Iyer, Rahul, or Pant. When you see other teams, they are playing such attacking cricket, I have never seen CSK struggle so much," said Suresh Raina while speaking on Star Sports

Adding more fuel to the fire Raina didn’t shy away from calling this the weakest CSK squad ever.

“Definitely yes, this is the weakest CSK team we’ve seen. I believe the intent to win isn’t there anymore. There’s a lack of that hunger. No disrespect to anyone, but the brand of cricket CSK used to play no longer exists,” Raina said.
