England crashed West Indies by 8 wickets in the first T20I on Sunday (November 10). Brilliant four wicket-haul from Saqib Mahmood and three wicket-haul from Adil Rashid helped the visitors restrict West Indies to 182. In reply, Phil Salt blasted a swashbuckling 103 off only 54 deliveries which steered England home comfortably.

Opting to bowl first, Saqib Mahmood ran through the West Indies top order as he removed both the openers cheaply, including Shimron Hetmyer for a golden duck. West Indies were reduced to 18-3. Nicholas Pooran, however, handled the new-ball storm and scored a fine 38 off 29 balls beforr falling to Jamie Overton.

Adil Rashid then had skipper Rovman Powell and Sherfane Rutherford and West Indies again had another mini collapse.

All-rounder Andre Russell and Gudakesh Motie blasted boundaries at the backend of the innings, Romario Shepherd too joined the party. Shepherd remained unbeaten on 35* off 22 balls, while Motie blasted a quick-fire cameo of 33 off just 14 deliveries to help the hosts get to 182 on the board.

In reply, England bossed the powerplay with Phil Salt scoring bulk of the runs as he took on Shamar Joseph and Gudakesh Motie to the cleaners and helped England get to 73 by the end of the powerplay. Will Jacks was out after the powerplay and so was Jos Buttler as the English captain perished for a first ball duck.

But that didn’t stop England from a clinical chase as Jacob Bethell joined Salt and the duo hammered the West Indies bowlers ins and outs and strung for an outstanding 107* run stand between them for a complete domination in the chase.
